If you want to live green, choose second hand cars

Driving a hybrid car is the most known of way of saving the environment. However, if you really want to help save the earth and do something about global warming, driving a second had car is the best thing that you can do. You can browse your favorite car model on different second hand car stores online like Motors.co.uk or by visiting second hand car outlets near you. By doing so, you will surely find the best model and make of your desire without having the guilt feeling of harming the environment, as by driving a second hand car allows you to put less carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, thus less pollution and lesser carbon footprint.

Matt Power stated in an issue of Wired Magazine in 2008 that, a hybrid car like the Toyota Prius has greater mileage but it has also been known that it takes 113 million BTUs of energy in order to make the said model. Since a gallon of gasoline contains 113,000 BTUs of energy, the Toyota Prius already takes 1,000 gallons of gasoline before it was made available for view in a certain showroom, which is a large amount of gasoline already.

Looking at the figures mentioned, driving a Prius lets you owe 1,000 gallons of gasoline to the environment prior to driving it, which is not eco-friendly enough. Therefore, buying a second hand car would be beneficial, since upon buying, you already have saved 1,000 gallons of gasoline. However, when buying a second hand car, you must also choose those that have better mileage. One example of a fuel-efficient second hand car is the 1998 Toyota Tercel, which has 27mg city/35 mpg highway miles.

Other fuel-efficient second hand car models include the Ford Festiva or Aspire with 33 mpg, while a Mazda Proteges of the mid-90s and the early 90s Dodge Colts have 30 mpgs or so.

Other fuel-efficient second hand car models include:

  • Honda CRX HF
  • 1985 Chevrolet Chevette
  • 1987 Chevrolet Sprint
  • Toyota Echo
  • Honda Civic
  • Chevrolet Prizm
  • Mini Cooper

Aside from the above mentioned models, you can also do your own research when buying a second hand car. You can visit the manufacturer’s website or browse on review sites and read some honest reviews from critics and users. In this way, you can have the idea if the car that you are aiming to buy has better mileage and can contribute in saving the environment

The new Jetta goes on sale in October. It will be manufactured in VW's Puebla, Mexico, factory.

Four engines will be available on the Jetta, including the 2.0-liter turbodiesel direct injection powerplant already offered on the new generation Jetta station wagon that went on sale last fall. A manual transmission is standard but the 2.0-liter diesel and gasoline versions will get a six-speed double-clutch transmission that VW calls DSG.

The new Jetta will be offered in several trim levels including a 2.0-liter GLI. The automaker also says the new Jetta has a more muscular and athletic look and sharper styling.

Ford loses $445M case against IRS

Ford has lost a federal court challenge against the U.S. Internal Revenue Service in which the automaker was owed $445 million in interest from a tax dispute.

The ruling involves an arcane corporate tax law allowing businesses to avoid steep interest payments if they’re found to have underpaid taxes on returns going back decades.

In the early 1990s, Ford had paid the IRS to stop the clock on any interest due for taxes it might have owed between 1983 and 1994, and later asked the IRS to consider that money a tax payment. When the IRS later found that Ford had overpaid its taxes, it gave the automaker a refund with interest.

Ford contended the IRS withheld $445 million in interest on the stop-the-clock money that the automaker was owed. The IRS argued, and U.S. District Judge Patrick Duggan agreed, that federal rules don’t allow for interest in such cases.

Jaguar Land Rover’s future revealed

A new sports car, a fourth Range Rover, a BMW 3-Series rival and an executive estate, plus new factories in China, exciting engines and a return of focus to innovation. Under Indian Auto giant – Tata’s control, Jaguar Land Rover is stepping in to high gear.

JAGUAR F-TYPE

Ina news that will cheer up British sports car lovers - the Jaguar F-Type is a go! Bosses at the firm have finally given the green light to the two-seat roadster, which will take on the Porsche Boxster.

The F-Type was first seen in the form of the XK180 concept back in 1998, but the project has been constantly delayed as the company struggled with its finances. But now, thanks to the promise of £1bn of investment every year for the next five years by new Indian owner Tata, a driver-focused sports car is imminent.

“We have a new momentum. There is so much potential,” said Jaguar Land Rover chairman Ralf Speth. “A new sports car is coming.”

Tata chief executive Carl- Peter Forster added: “We like the idea, we support the idea. Ian Callum has been working on some ideas along these lines, and we like what we see. We are at the clay model stage, tweaking the idea here and there.”

When it’s finished, expect the F-Type to look very similar to the illustration in our main picture. With a classic mesh grille, sporty air intakes and a bonnet bulge, it has plenty of road presence and is instantly recognisable as a Jaguar.
